Activities - how the charity spends its money
The Project was set up in 1981 by local people for local people to provide community facilities for disadvantaged groups living in the Calder Valley, Luddendenfoot and Todmorden of Calderdale. In addition to developing a number of local community initiatives and not-for-profit social enterprises, the Ground Floor project runs the Salem Community Resource Centre, housing 28 community groups.

MEMORANDUM AND ARTICLES OF ASSOCIATION INCORPORATED 29 NOVEMBER 1984 AS AMENDED BY SPECIAL RESOLUTION DATED 16 JULY 2001.
Charitable objects
(I) TO PROMOTE THE ADVANCEMENT OF EDUCATION, THE RELIEF OF NEED AND THE PROVISION OF FACILITIES FOR RECREATIONAL AND OTHER LEISURE-TIME OCCUPANTS IN THE INTERESTS OF SOCIAL WELFARE AMONG YOUNG AND OTHER UNEMPLOYED PEOPLE RESIDING WITHIN UPPER CALDERDALE (COMPRISING THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTORAL WARDS OF CALDER VALLEY, LUDDENDENFOOT AND TODMORDEN). (II) TO PROMOTE THE PROTECTION AND PRESERVATION OF THE ENVIRONMENT FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT BY: (A) EDUCATING THE PUBLIC IN THE BENEFITS TO THE ENVIRONMENT OF SUSTAINABLE WASTE MANAGEMENT AND ENERGY PRACTICES, (B) CONDUCTING RESEARCH INTO SUSTAINABLE WASTE MANAGEMENT AND SUSTAINABLE ENERGY AND DISSEMINATING THE USEFUL RESULTS OF THAT RESEARCH AND (C) DEVELOPING AND ENCOURAGING SUSTAINABLE WASTE MANAGEMENT AND SUSTAINABLE ENERGY PRACTICES. (III) TO PROMOTE ANY CHARITABLE PURPOSE FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE AFORESAID COMMUNITY AND IN PARTICULAR THE ADVANCEMENT OF EDUCATION; THE PROTECTION OF HEALTH AND THE RELIEF OF POVERTY, DISTRESS AND SICKNESS, AND IN FURTHERANCE OF THE SAID PURPOSE BUT NOT FURTHER OR OTHERWISE TO PROMOTE AND ORGANISE CO-OPERATION IN THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE SAME AND TO THAT END TO BRING TOGETHER IN COUNCIL REPRESENTATIVES OF THE VOLUNTARY ORGANISATIONS AND STATUTORY AUTHORITIES WITHIN THE AREA OF BENEFIT. (IV) TO PROMOTE INTEGRATION OF DISADVANTAGED GROUPS WITHIN THE GENERAL COMMUNITY AND TO STRESS THROUGH THE ADVICE OFFERED BY THE ASSOCIATION AND THE SCHEMES WITH WHICH IT WILL ASSISTANT THE IMPORTANCE OF SELF-HELP AMONGST SUCH DISADVANTAGED GROUPS
