The AUTP is an independent body, whose principal aim is to promote the effective learning and teaching of psychiatry to medical undergraduates in the medical schools of the UK and Ireland through educational meetings and research. Membership of the organisation is open to all staff that have a role and an interest in teaching psychiatry, regardless of their own academic discipline.

THE OBJECTS OF THE CIO ARE TO ADVANCE FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE PUBLIC THE STUDY OF THE TEACHING OF PSYCHIATRY TO ENCOURAGE AND PROMOTE INTEREST INTO MATTERS CONCERNED WITH THE TEACHING OF PSYCHIATRY AND TO IMPROVE THE METHODS FOR TEACHING PSYCHIATRY.
