Charitable objects
(1) THE OBJECT OF THE CIO IS TO ADVANCE THE EDUCATION OF THE PUBLIC IN THE ARTS, IN PARTICULAR THROUGH MAINTAINING THE OLIVE MATTHEWS COLLECTION IN ITS ENTIRETY AND MAKING THE COLLECTION AVAILABLE FOR DISPLAY TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC: (A) BY RUNNYMEDE BOROUGH COUNCIL IN ITS MUSEUM IN CHERTSEY OR IN SOME OTHER SUITABLE MUSEUM IN THE BOROUGH OF RUNNYMEDE; OR (B) IN SUCH OTHER LOCAL AUTHORITY, REGIONAL OR NATIONAL MUSEUM(S) WITHIN THE UNITED KINGDOM AS THE CHARITY TRUSTEES MAY FROM TIME TO TIME SEE FIT PROVIDED THAT IF THERE IS, IN THE OPINION OF THE CHARITY TRUSTEES, MORE THAN ONE SUITABLE MUSEUM THE CHARITY TRUSTEES MAY DIVIDE THE COLLECTION BETWEEN SUCH MUSEUMS IN SUCH MANNER AND IN SUCH SHARES AS THEY MAY IN THEIR ABSOLUTE DISCRETION FROM TIME TO TIME DECIDE. (2) FOR THE PURPOSES OF THIS CLAUSE 3 (AND IN THIS CONSTITUTION MORE GENERALLY) “THE OLIVE MATTHEWS COLLECTION” AND THE “COLLECTION” MEANS THE COLLECTION OF COSTUMES, BRODERIES, BUCKLES, FANS, WATCHES, OTHER FASHION ACCESSORIES, SILVER AND OTHER OBJECTS OF ANTIQUE CRAFTSMANSHIP OR HISTORIC INTEREST ORIGINALLY SETTLED ON TRUST BY OLIVE MARY MATTHEWS PURSUANT TO A DEED OF TRUST DATED 12 MARCH 1969 AND MADE BETWEEN (1) OLIVE MARY MATTHEWS; AND (2) SYDNEY ALFRED OLIVER, BERNARD FREDERICK JONES PARDOE AND JOHN AUSTEN NELSON-JONES, AND ANY SUBSEQUENT ADDITIONS TO THAT COLLECTION PROVIDED THAT THE CIO MAY ALSO MAINTAIN AND DISPLAY SEPARATE COLLECTIONS, WHICH NEED NOT FORM PART OF THE COLLECTION, AND CLAUSE 3(1) SHALL BE READ ACCORDINGLY.
