The objects of the CIO are to advance the education of the public in the history of the railway locomotive and general transport heritage of the United Kingdom, with focus on the history of Tyneside locomotive builders with their contribution to the railway industry and industrial development of the North East of England. Primarily through demonstrations of restored steam locomotives.
