Charitable objects
THE OBJECT OF THE CIO IS THE ADVANCEMENT OF HUMAN RIGHTS (AS SET OUT IN THE UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS AND SUBSEQUENT UNITED NATIONS COVENANTS, CONVENTIONS AND DECLARATIONS), IN PARTICULAR THE RIGHTS OF UYGHUR PEOPLE AND OTHER TURKIC GROUPS IN THE UYGHUR REGION OF NORTHWEST CHINA AND SUCH PERSONS LIVING IN EXILE, BY THE FOLLOWING MEANS: RAISING AWARENESS OF HUMAN RIGHTS ISSUES COMMENTING ON PROPOSED LEGISLATION RELATED TO HUMAN RIGHTS MONITORING THE ABUSES OF THE HUMAN RIGHTS CONDUCTING RESEARCH INTO HUMAN RIGHTS ISSUES PROMOTING PUBLIC SUPPORT FOR THE PROTECTION OF HUMAN RIGHTS IN FURTHERANCE OF THAT OBJECT BUT NOT OTHERWISE, THE TRUSTEES SHALL HAVE POWER TO ENGAGE IN POLITICAL ACTIVITY PROVIDED THAT THE TRUSTEES ARE SATISFIED THAT THE PROPOSED ACTIVITIES WILL FURTHER THE PURPOSES OF THE CHARITY TO AN EXTENT JUSTIFIED BY THE RESOURCES COMMITTED AND THE ACTIVITY IS NOT THE DOMINANT MEANS BY WHICH THE CHARITY CARRIES OUT ITS OBJECTS.
