THE OBJECT OF THE CIO IS: THE ADVANCEMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION OR IMPROVEMENT FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT IN THE CITY OF SHEFFIELD BY: A) PROMOTING CYCLING AS A SUSTAINABLE ALTERNATIVE TO MOTOR TRAVEL WITH THE AIM OF REDUCING CARBON EMISSIONS AND IMPROVING AIR QUALITY; B) PROMOTING WASTE REDUCTION AND RECYCLING THOUGH: - RECONDITIONING DONATED BICYCLES FOR REUSE - RECYCLING USED AND SCRAP BICYCLES AND PARTS THEREBY REDUCING THE AMOUNT OF WASTE GENERATED BY USED BICYCLES GOING DIRECT TO LANDFILL. - PROVIDING CYCLE MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR WORKSHOPS WITH THE AIM OF PROVIDING BASIC EDUCATION AND TRAINING IN CYCLE MAINTENANCE TO ENABLE PARTICIPANTS TO REPAIR AND MAINTAIN THEIR OWN BICYCLES RATHER THAN DISCARDING THEM, THEREBY REDUCING THE AMOUNT OF WASTE GENERATED BY USED BICYCLES GOING DIRECT TO LANDFILL.
