Charitable objects
THE OBJECTS OF THE CIO ARE: (1) TO ADVANCE THE BUDDHIST RELIGION FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE DOCTRINES AND PRINCIPLES OF THE BUDDHIST FAITH, IN PARTICULAR THROUGH SERENE REFLECTION MEDITATION, GUIDANCE, DAY RETREATS, PUBLIC CELEBRATIONS OF RELIGIOUS FESTIVALS, EVENTS, DAILY SERVICES, EDUCATIONAL PRESENTATIONS AND LECTURES; (2) TO ADVANCE THE EDUCATION OF THE PUBLIC IN THE SUBJECT OF MEDITATION AND THE TEACHINGS OF BUDDHISM, IN PARTICULAR (BUT NOT EXCLUSIVELY) BY SUPPORTING AND ENCOURAGING THE STUDY AND PRACTICE OF BUDDHIST MEDITATION; (4) TO PROVIDE OR ASSIST IN THE PROVISION OF FACILITIES, IN THE INTEREST OF SOCIAL WELFARE FOR RECREATION OR OTHER LEISURE TIME OCCUPATION OF PERSONS WHO HAVE NEED OF SUCH FACILITIES WITH THE OBJECT OF IMPROVING THEIR CONDITION OF LIFE; (5) THE RELIEF OF POVERTY BY PROVIDING SUCH ASSISTANCE AND SUPPORT AS THE TRUSTEES DEEM APPROPRIATE; AND (6) TO PRESERVE AND PROTECT GOOD HEALTH THROUGH THE PROVISION OF PSYCHOTHERAPY SESSIONS. NOTHING IN THIS CONSTITUTION SHALL AUTHORISE AN APPLICATION OF THE PROPERTY OF THE CIO FOR THE PURPOSES WHICH ARE NOT CHARITABLE IN ACCORDANCE WITH SECTION 7 OF THE CHARITIES AND TRUSTEE INVESTMENT (SCOTLAND) ACT 2005 AND SECTION 2 OF THE CHARITIES ACT (NORTHERN IRELAND) 2008.
