Charitable objects
TO APPLY THE INCOME OF THE FOUNDATION IN THE PROVISION OF UNIVERSITY EXHIBITIONS TO BE AWARDED UNDER RULES TO BE MADE BY THE COMPANY, INCLUDING RULES AS TO THE NUMBER, VALUE AND PERIOD OF TENURE OF THE EXHIBITIONS, TO MALE AND FEMALE CANDIDATES WHO SATISFY THE COMPANY THAT THEY ARE IN NEED OF FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE. EXHIBITIONS AWARDED SHALL BE TENABLE AT ANY OF THE UNIVERSITIES OF OXFORD, CAMBRIDGE AND LONDON, AND CANDIDATES SHALL BE EITHER UNDERGRADUATES OF THE SAID UNIVERSITIES OR PUPILS AT PUBLIC OR SECONDARY SCHOOLS WHO DESIRE TO PROCEED TO SUCH UNIVERSITIES AND SHALL SATISFY THE COMPANY THAT THEY INTEND TO TAKE HOLY ORDERS, PROVIDED THAT IF AND IN SO FAR AS THE COMPANY IS IN ANY YEAR UNABLE TO APPLY THE INCOME OF THE FOUNDATION IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE FOREGOING, THEN EXHIBITIONS MAY BE TENABLE BY UNDERGRADUATES OR GRADUATES AT ANY UNIVERSITY OR THEOLOGICAL COLLEGE IN ENGLAND APPROVED BY THE COMPANY, PROVIDED THAT A PREFERENCE IS GIVEN TO CANDIDATES WHO EXPRESS AN INTENTION TO TAKE HOLY ORDERS.
