THE OBJECTS OF THE CIO ARE: TO ADVANCE THE EDUCATION OF THE PUBLIC IN THE HISTORY, HERITAGE AND CULTURE OF ALSTON MOOR AND SURROUNDING AREAS THROUGH, BUT NOT EXCLUSIVELY: • RUNNING A PROGRAMME OF HISTORICAL TALKS AND EVENTS FOR MEMBERS AND VISITORS • ACQUIRING AND PRESERVING RELEVANT LOCAL HISTORICAL DOCUMENTS, PUBLICATIONS AND OTHER MATERIAL AND MAKING THESE AVAILABLE TO MEMBERS AND THE PUBLIC • SUPPORTING INDIVIDUALS AND GROUPS RESEARCHING THE HISTORY OF THE LOCAL AREA • PUBLISHING WORKS ON THE LOCAL HISTORY OF THE AREA • PROVIDING ADVICE ON MATTERS AFFECTING LOCAL HERITAGE • WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP WITH INDIVIDUALS, COMMUNITIES AND OTHER LOCAL HISTORY GROUPS AND SOCIETIES, WHERE APPROPRIATE.
