THE OBJECT OF THE CIO, TO BE CARRIED OUT FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT IN SUCH PARTS OF THE UK AS THE TRUSTEES SHALL FROM TIME TO TIME DETERMINE, IS: THE RELIEF OF CHILDREN, AND BY EXTENSION THEIR FAMILIES/CARERS, IN NEED BY REASON OF ILL-HEALTH, DISABILITY (MENTAL OR PHYSICAL), FINANCIAL HARDSHIP OR OTHER SOCIAL DISADVANTAGE RESULTING FROM BEING IN THE CARE OF LOCAL AUTHORITIES AS A ‘LOOKED AFTER CHILD’ AT ANY POINT IN THEIR LIVES, THROUGH THE PROVISION OF GRANTS OF FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO OBTAIN SUCH ITEMS, SERVICES, ACTIVITIES AND SUPPORT REQUIRED TO ENABLE THEM TO DEVELOP AND THRIVE.
