To improve the quality of life for the Somali community affected by epilepsy, we increase public awareness, provide reliable health information, and run practical workshops on seizure first aid and self-management. We also facilitate access to specialist medical care, organise peer support groups, and undertake research to improve services and inform policy for Somali families.

THE OBJECTS OF THE CIO ARE: THE RELIEF OF SICKNESS AND THE PRESERVATION OF HEALTH OF PEOPLE SUFFERING WITH EPILEPSY FROM THE SOMALIA COMMUNITY LIVING IN THE UK AND PEOPLE WITH EPILEPSY LIVING IN SOMALIA, IN PARTICULAR BUT NOT EXCLUSIVELY BY: A) THE PROVISION OF EDUCATION TO INCREASE PUBLIC AWARENESS AND UNDERSTANDING OF EPILEPSY, ITS CAUSES, TREATMENT, AND MANAGEMENT, PARTICULARLY THROUGH MULTILINGUAL RESOURCES, MEDIA CAMPAIGNS, AND COMMUNITY WORKSHOPS. B) THE PROVISION OF INFORMATION, ADVICE, AND GUIDANCE TO INDIVIDUALS WITH EPILEPSY AND THEIR FAMILIES TO IMPROVE WELLBEING, NAVIGATE HEALTHCARE SYSTEMS, AND ACCESS SUPPORT SERVICES. C) THE ESTABLISHMENT OF PEER SUPPORT GROUPS, HELPLINES, AND OTHER PRACTICAL SUPPORT SERVICES TO ALLEVIATE ISOLATION AND IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH EPILEPSY. D) ADVOCACY, CAMPAIGNING, AND ENGAGEMENT WITH COMMUNITY LEADERS, HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS, AND RELIGIOUS INSTITUTIONS TO REDUCE STIGMA AND DISCRIMINATION ASSOCIATED WITH EPILEPSY. E) THE PROVISION OF TRAINING TO HEALTHCARE AND COMMUNITY PROFESSIONALS TO PROMOTE CULTURALLY SENSITIVE CARE AND IMPROVE OUTCOMES FOR PEOPLE AFFECTED BY EPILEPSY. F) SUPPORTING, ENCOURAGING, OR FUNDING RESEARCH INTO EPILEPSY, WITH A FOCUS ON ITS IMPACT ON THE SOMALI COMMUNITY, AND THE DISSEMINATION OF RESEARCH FINDINGS. G) TO CONDUCT ACTIVITIES BOTH WITHIN THE UNITED KINGDOM AND INTERNATIONALLY, WITH A FOCUS ON EAST AFRICA AND REGIONS WITH SIGNIFICANT SOMALI POPULATIONS, TO PROMOTE AWARENESS, EDUCATION, AND RESEARCH RELATED TO EPILEPSY.
