TO ADVANCE THE EDUCATION AND APPRECIATION OF THE PUBLIC IN WHITBY ABBEY BY: 1. THE PRESERVATION, CONSERVATION, EXPLORATION, INTERPRETATION, DEVELOPMENT AND PROMOTION OF THE ABBEY LANDS AND BUILDINGS IN ALL WAYS CONSISTENT WITH ITS HISTORY AND CHRISTIAN PURPOSES INCLUDING THE BUILDING AND MANAGEMENT OF VISITOR FACILITIES AND SERVICES. 2. USE OF THE ABBEY AS A SITE OF CHRISTIAN HERITAGE FOR BOTH LAY VISITORS AND PILGRIMS. 3. THE ENCOURAGEMENT OF ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXPLORATION OF THE SITE THROUGH RESPONSIBLE BODIES.
