Charitable expenditure
Some charities generate all, or a substantial part, of their income from investments which may have been donated to the charity as endowment or set aside by the charity from its own resources in the past. Such investments usually take the form of stocks and shares but may include other assets, such as property, that are capable of generating income and/or capital growth.
In managing their spending and investments charities need to strike a balance between the needs of future and current beneficiaries. They also need to take account of spending commitments that may stretch over a number of future years. To do this, charities will normally adopt an investment strategy designed to generate both income and capital growth. To maximise returns trustees may commit to investment strategies for several years.
Investments can experience large swings in value so trustees may, in a particular year, decide to realise and spend part of their charity’s capital or to invest part of its income.

Charitable objects
THE OBJECT FOR WHICH THE COMPANY IS ESTABLISHED IS TO PROMOTE OR ASSIST IN THE PROMOTION OF EDUCATION IN THE DIOCESE OF BLACKBURN THAT IS CONSISTENT WITH THE FAITH AND PRACTICE OF THE CHURCH OF ENGLAND, INCLUDING (BUT WITHOUT LIMITATION) BY: 3.1 PROMOTING OR ASSISTING IN THE PROMOTION OF RELIGIOUS EDUCATION AND RELIGIOUS WORSHIP IN SCHOOLS IN THE DIOCESE; 3.2 PROMOTING OR ASSISTING IN THE PROMOTION OF CHURCH SCHOOLS IN THE DIOCESE; 3.3 PROMOTING CO-OPERATION BETWEEN ITSELF AND OTHER PERSONS CONCERNED WITH EDUCATION IN THE DIOCESE; 3.4 DISCHARGING WITHIN THE DIOCESE THE FUNCTIONS ASSIGNED TO DIOCESAN BOARDS OF EDUCATION BY SECTION 2 AND SECTIONS 7 TO 15 OF THE DIOCESAN BOARDS OF EDUCATION MEASURE 2021 OR BY AMENDING LEGISLATION; AND 3.5 DISCHARGING WITHIN THE DIOCESE SUCH OTHER CHARITABLE FUNCTIONS AS MAY BE ASSIGNED TO THE BOARD BY THE DIOCESAN SYNOD, OTHER THAN FUNCTIONS RELATING TO CHURCH SCHOOLS OR CHURCH EDUCATIONAL ENDOWMENTS.
