Charitable objects
3. THE CHARITY IS A NON-PROFIT-MAKING ENVIRONMENTAL BODY WHOSE OBJECTS ARE: (1) TO PROMOTE THE BENEFIT OF THE INHABITANTS OF CUMBRIA, BY THE ADVANCEMENT OF EDUCATION, RELIEF OF POVERTY, SICKNESS OR DISTRESS OR TO UNDERTAKE SUCH OTHER CHARITABLE PURPOSES AS THE TRUSTEES SHALL IN THEIR ABSOLUTE DISCRETION DETERMINE. (2) THE PROTECTION AND ENHANCEMENT OF THE ENVIRONMENT; (INCLUDING THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE PUBLIC BY THE MAINTENANCE, REPAIR OR RESTORATION OF ANY BUILDING OR STRUCTURE WHICH IS OF PUBLIC AMENITY, HISTORIC R ARCHITECTURAL INTEREST.) IN FURTHERANCE OF THE ABOVE OBJECTS BUT NOT OTHERWISE THE CHARITY SHALL HAVE THE POWER TO ENGAGE IN ACTIVITIES IN FURTHERANCE OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AND TO ENGAGE IN ACTIVITIES IN FURTHERANCE OF THE PRINCIPLES SET OUT IN AGENDA 21. IN THIS SUB-CLAUSE THE PHRASE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT MEANS DEVELOPMENT THAT MEETS THE NEEDS OF T PRESENT WITHOUT COMPROMISING THE ABILITY OF FUTURE GENERATIONS TO MEET THEIR OWN NEEDS; THE PHRASE AGENDA 21 REFERS TO THE ACTION PROGRAMME OF THAT NAME ADOPTED BY THE UNITED NATIONS CONFERENCE ON ENVIRONMENT AND DEVELOPMENT.
