Charitable objects
THE OBJECT OF THE CIO IS, FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT, THE PROVISION OF SELF-CONTAINED HOUSES,FLATS OR APARTMENTS FOR: (1) THOSE WHO SERVED IN THE ROYAL NAVY AND ROYAL MARINES, THE ARMY, THE ROYAL AIR FORCE OR THE MERCANTILE MARINE (OR ANY OTHER BRANCH OR SERVICE WITHIN THE ARMED FORCES WHICH SUBSEQUENTLY BECAME PART OF THOSE) WHO ARE WHOLLY OR PARTIALLY INFIRM, STRICKEN, SUFFERING, WOUNDED OR OTHERWISE DISABLED WHETHER THEIR DISABLEMENT ARISES DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY FROM WOUNDS, ACCIDENTS, DISEASE OR OTHERWISE AND ARE SELF-CARING ("PRINCIPAL BENEFICIARY"); AND (2) DEPENDANTS OF A PRINCIPAL BENEFICIARY. "DEPENDANT" MEANS A SPOUSE, CIVIL-PARTNER AND ANY OTHER DEPENDANT WHO RESIDES WITH A PRINCIPAL BENEFICIARY AND, AT THE DISCRETION OF THE CHARITY TRUSTEES, THEY MAY CONTINUE TO BE CONSIDERED A DEPENDANT AFTER THE DEATH OF A PRINCIPAL BENEFICIARY AND CONTINUE TO BE HOUSED FOR SUCH TERM AS THE CHARITY TRUSTEES MAY THINK FIT.
