The objects of the charity (‘the objects’) are to: (1) Encourage young people in South Wiltshire and the surrounding areas (henceforth referred to as ‘South Wiltshire’) to enjoy brass music making. For the purposes of this Trust Deed ‘brass’ shall be defined as including all standard instruments (including percussion) that are played in British standard brass bands. (2) To support young people in South Wiltshire to attain high musical standards in brass instrument playing and performance, including by assisting with music examination preparation and conduct. (3) To help young people to become independent in their playing, through assisting with the purchase of personal brass instruments. This is aimed at young people who are involved in learning brass instruments and playing them in brass bands, with those actively playing in brass bands being the priority. Young people shall be deemed as any who are: (1) Up to age 21 who are playing or learning to play a brass instrument. (2) There is no minimum age, but for practical purposes it shall deemed to be when a young person is having brass music lessons, or is an active member of a brass band. The following types of support are foreseen: (1) Assistance with brass instrument purchase or repairs. (2) Payment or part payment of brass instrument examination fees. (3) Assistance with paying for brass music lessons. (4) Payment of accompanist fees for brass music exams. (5) Assistance with travel costs to brass competitions the applicant is playing in. (6) Assisting with bursaries for brass players as they move into further education. (7) Support to youth training brass bands for the purchase of music or instruments to support the achievement of the Deed's 3 objects above.
