Founded in 1837, the Society's purpose is to promote knowledge of, and research, education and conservation relating to, the earth sciences, especially relating to Yorkshire and the north of England, through lecture and field meetings, publications including "Proceedings", "Circular". field guides. it also cooperates with related societies in its meetings and the annual Yorkshire Geology Month.
