The fund is a voluntary organisation, which was established in 1989 by members of the Prison Service. It is an independent association supported by staff within the Prison Service with the aim of providing assistance, either directly or in conjunction with other fund raising efforts, to any member of the general public who needs assistance, particular medical attention or equipment.
