THE OBJECT OF THE CIO IS TO ADVANCE THE ARTS THROUGH THE PROMOTION OF RESEARCH AND PERFORMANCE OF MUSIC SUPPRESSED OR OBSTRUCTED BY POLITICAL AUTHORITIES FROM THE TURN OF THE TWENTIETH CENTURY TO THE PRESENT DAY, IN PARTICULAR BUT NOT EXCLUSIVELY BY PROMOTING RESEARCH OF COMPOSERS AND PERFORMERS OF SUCH MUSIC AND TO RAISE AWARENESS OF SUCH MUSIC IN THE PUBLIC IN GENERAL.
