The Locomotion Trust was founded in 1975 to build and manage a full working replica of George Stephenson's first railway engine Locomotion No 1. The engine resides at The Beamish Open Air Museum. The Trust is commited to the spread of knowledge in early railways andhas since added two further engines Steam Elephant and Thomas Hedley's Puffing Billy all of which can be seen in operation at Beamish.
